Let the games begin!

Just as you thought all the excitement surrounding sport and competition was over with the closing of the games in Beijing, you are just in time for one of the most interesting face-offs in history:  Apple versus Google.

For those not with a geek or technical focus, Google has developed a mobile phone software system and it has been code named Android.

Very much like Google, they developed the system and then released it to the tech community with visions of fame and fortune in the form a of a contest for developers.

With applications now written a very big thing happened on August 12.  HTC, a major mobile phone handset maker received FCC approval for their latest device called The Dream.  Check out CNET’s article covering the event.

More significantly, this device will be carried by T-Mobile thereby creating one of the more dramatic stand-offs in while:  Apple/AT&T versus Google/T-Mobile.

There are a lot of videos out on the web and most of them are really blurry.  Here is a great video which gives you visibility of the device and reviews the basic capabilities.

I had a conversation with a VP of Engineering in a Boston based mobile phone product company some 7 months ago about Android and it’s potential impact.  At the time, my contact was skeptical about it’s timeline and delivery channel possibilities.

With Apple and Google both deploying software distribution channels, the match up is very equal and both have amazing design capabilities and consistent track records of delivering high quality life altering services.
